The tragedy occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 10, when a 49,500-liter tanker truck overturned and exploded on Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza, near the Puente de la Concordia in Iztapalapa.
The initial toll was 14 dead, 39 hospitalized, and 30 released after treatment.
With this latest death, the toll has risen to 15, while authorities continue to investigate the causes of the accident.
The Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office presented a preliminary report pointing to speeding and lack of driver skill.
Mexico Gas Truck Explosion: Forensic Report

The document, prepared by the General Coordination of Forensic Services, indicated that the driver lost control of the truck in a roundabout.
Although he was traveling at 40 km/h, the posted limit in the area, the report concluded that he lacked the technical ability to maintain control of the vehicle.
The analysis ruled out external factors such as potholes or speed bumps and confirmed that the pavement was dry.
The main hypothesis is that the driver lost control of the tanker, causing it to overturn and explode.
